Gold: Breakout Rally Faces Its First Real Test

Gold: Breakout Rally Faces Its First Real Test

Gold has broken decisively above the range that controlled price throughout the second half of July. The move has been sharp, impulsive and supported by consecutive bullish candles, confirming that buyers have regained short-term control.

However, the breakout has already carried price into a more difficult area.

The market is now testing the 4,200–4,250 region, where the latest advance could either develop into a broader continuation or begin a corrective reset. Above this area, the next major technical obstacle sits near the June supply zone around 4,320–4,360.

The fundamental backdrop has also supported the rally. Gold reached a one-month high as a softer U.S. dollar and lower Treasury yields improved demand for the non-yielding metal. Markets have reduced some expectations for further Federal Reserve tightening, while upcoming U.S. employment data remains the next major catalyst.

Bullish Scenario

A sustained four-hour close above 4,250 would indicate that buyers are still absorbing supply despite the speed of the advance.

If price can establish acceptance above this level, the path toward 4,320–4,360 would become increasingly attractive. That zone previously acted as a major distribution area and represents the first meaningful higher-timeframe test for the current recovery.

Corrective Scenario

The rally has become nearly vertical, which makes chasing price at current levels increasingly risky.

Failure to hold above 4,200 could trigger a pullback toward the former breakout area around 4,175–4,205. A successful retest there would keep the bullish structure intact and potentially offer a cleaner continuation setup.

A deeper move below the breakout zone would expose 4,110–4,145, suggesting that the latest surge was driven more by short-term momentum than by a sustainable structural shift.

For now, the breakout remains constructive, but the next reaction matters more than the initial move. Strong momentum has brought gold into resistance; buyers must now prove that they can defend the territory they have gained.

Would you chase the breakout here, or wait for a retest of 4,200 before considering a long position?
